"A veteran narcotics detective indicted for perjury for allegedly framing defendants in five cases has been fired, the NYPD said Monday.
Det. Joseph Franco, with 20 years on the job, was dismissed April 21 by Police Commissioner Dermot Shea following an earlier departmental trial on perjury charges
Franco was accused last April of fabricating stories about drug buys in which he allegedly saw three people involved. All three were convicted and two were sent to state prison, though their convictions were overturned after prosecutors found video evidence contradicting Franco’s version of events.
Interviews with other officers also helped unravel Franco’s alleged tall tales.
In July, perjury charges were added for Franco’s role in two other cases."
