Ex-NBA Player Stephon Marbury Call's LeBron James A "Fake Laker", Then Ether's An IG Nerd

LeBron obviously doesn’t have the same stature with the Los Angeles Lakers that Kobe did. He’s only been with the team for a year and a half at this point, and last season was something of a lost year for the franchise.

LeBron hasn’t really given the sense that he’s looking to be the new Kobe, though. He wants to win a title with a third franchise and return the Lakers to glory.

On Complex Sports‘ “Load Management” podcast, Marbury had some pretty tough critiques of LeBron, in the wake of Kobe’s death. “He doesn’t need you to carry his legacy. His legacy is his legacy,” the retired point guard said. “(Lebron’s) no real Laker.”

As expected, Marbury’s criticisms got picked up by most of the debate shows today. ESPN’s First Take and FS1’s Undisputed both discussed the take on their shows.

You can probably guess who took which side between take artists Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless. The podcast’s cohost Chopz out together a little highlight reel from the two shows.

They weren’t limited to LeBron, though. He also lashed out at others who didn’t like Kobe during his life, but praised him after he died. That of course, has a lot to do with the complicated legacy that Bryant left behind.

Marbury hasn’t been LeBron James’ biggest fan in the past, so this may not be the most surprising take. He played in the league from 1996-2009, before becoming a legendary figure in Chinese basketball.
