Man fatally shot in Essex identified as rapper Dee-Dave King


ESSEX, Md — Two men were shot, one fatally Friday morning in Essex, Baltimore County police said.

Officials responded at 5:11 a.m. to the 900 block of Holgate Drive in Essex for a reported shooting. Arriving officers found two men who were both shot.

Medics responded and transported one of the men to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, identified as David Leroy King, 29, of Baltimore, was found halfway out of his car with a coffee cup still sitting on top of the vehicle. King is a rapper who also goes by the name Dee-Dave King.

The preliminary investigation revealed that both men were standing outside of King's car when one of the men opened fired.

King's father, David King, Sr. said his son had performed last night and was headed to Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport for a show in Atlanta when he was shot.

"It's tough right now. My body is going through a whole lot of emotions, my mind is somewhere else. But I'm just praying that things get better in this city and the whole world. To see another young life just gone for no reason," David King, Sr. said.

Baltimore County Homicide Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 410-307-2020. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward when submitting tips through Metro Crime Stoppers.
