HOUSTON — A rooftop sniper killed two people and wounded two others in what police described as an ambush. The shooting happened just before 5 p.m.Thursday in the 12800 block of Eastbrook Drive.
According to Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, two rival groups were involved in a fight several days earlier and agreed to meet back up.
"They were invited here to finish the fight," Acevedo said at a press conference Thursday.
When the groups began to arrive, a gunman who'd been waiting on one of the rooftops of an abandoned home, open fired on the group, police said.
An 18-year-old man died at the scene and a 21-year-old man who died at an area hospital. Acevedo said another man is in critical condition, while an 18-year-old woman was shot in the knee.
Acevedo said the shooter who sprayed bullets into the group was believed to have been armed with a semi-automatic rifle with a 30-round magazine.
"I am getting tired of going to these scenes and seeing young people die," he said.
Acevedo called the gunman a coward who gunned down people like deer.
Police believe the gunman escaped in a black Chevy Tahoe. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
