Lady Gaga has pulled out of the Rock In Rio music festival after being hospitalized with “severe physical pain,” the singer’s representatives announced on Thursday.
“Lady Gaga is suffering from severe physical pain that has impacted her ability to perform,” the statement reads. “As a result, she sadly must withdraw from this Friday’s Rock In Rio performance. Lady Gaga is under the care of expert medical professionals. She sends her love to all her fans in Rio and thanks them for their support and understanding.”
Gaga broke the news to her fans on social media with a series of photos, including one with an IV in her arm, and few personal tweets.
“Brazil, I’m devastated that I’m not well enough 2 come to Rock In Rio. I would do anything 4 u but I have to take care of my body right now,” she said in one tweet. “I ask for your grace and understanding, and promise that I will come back and perform for you soon,” she added in another.
Earlier this month, Lady Gaga postponed a show in Montreal due to laryngitis and a respiratory infection, the Associated Press reports. Earlier this week, the singer tweeted about her fibromyalgia, which she has said causes her chronic pain.
Rock in Rio kicks off Friday. Maroon 5, Fergie, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are all slated to perform.
