Thanks to the tax, the price of cigarettes has risen to almost triple what it was. It’s not just cigarettes, either, as the taxes also went up for other tobacco and vaping products. Last year, Californian lawmakers approved a spate of other anti-tobacco measures, which included the increasing of the smoking age from 18 to 21.

Last year, Californian lawmakers approved a spate of other anti-tobacco measures, which included the increasing of the smoking age from 18 to 21.

But it’s not just smokers who say it’s a big increase, as even non-smokers agree that it is a big increase. It’s so big that many smoke shops have a lot fewer customers since many bought up before the tax hike.

Of course, by doing that, it saves the smokers a lot of money. Especially when some bought in bulk, which resulted in savings in the hundreds of dollars.

It is said that since the first tobacco control campaign in 1988, the number of smokers dropped by half. So, while the tax increase isn’t sitting well with some, it might see others dropping the habit or not picking it up.

The tax increase, which was approved by voters in November, is projected to raise up to $1.4 billion a year, with a lot of the money is earmarked for Medi-Cal, a Californian health plan for people with low incomes that is jointly funded by the state and federal governments.
